Orange Cube Presents: WAAMBAT

A recent collaboration between Ravonus and Orange Cube is proud to present a new body of work by multidisciplinary artist WAAMBAT: the LUX, which initiates as an 18 megabyte superinscription on Bitcoin. The largest inscription created to date, LUX is both a culmination and expansion of WAAMBAT’s extended practice — bringing experimental animation and algorithmic subversion into permanence through the ordinal protocol.

About the Artist: WAAMBAT

Her body of work leans heavily into the genre of “video painting”: slow, rhythmic works that resist classification as either film or collage. WAAMBAT is an enigmatic artist, using the semiotics of culture to create visuals as jarring as they are sensual. She initially operated at the edges of Net Art, beginning in the early YouTube era, where her provocative style first found an audience. Her video paintings are known for remixing memetic imagery with elements drawn from the internet’s underbelly - combining low-resolution GIFs, internet erotica, spam aesthetics, and more.

When the video medium was seen as commercially nonviable, she refused to pivot back to painting or sculpture, even under pressure to do so by her contemporaries. Over years of iteration, she developed a uniquely personal animation style; layered, saturated, and dreamlike. In her own words: “I hybridize memes, encapsulating various semiosis into my own hieroglyphics.” Her use of adult media, spam iconography, and corrupted imagery is not just aesthetic — it weaves together the technosphere. She treats online detritus with reverence, lifting it into the space of monumental art.

Exploring the Work: LUX

Social media has punished WAAMBAT’s refusal to conform to the talking-head, easily digestible forms of digital self-expression. Instead of being discouraged, she was intrigued by the challenge. She dug further into the algorithms; toward recursion, repetition, deepening the ritual. How far could she push the system?

WAAMBAT was born into the internet’s fringe. Not the glossy influencer utopia, but the cracked side-pane of LimeWire windows, the iridescent trash heap of Tumblr GIFs, the corrupted pulse of early webcam rituals. Her work encapsulates remnants of the ancients, swirled with modern memetics, whispering guidance for those entering the oncoming era. A huge portion of her method is digging for media, finding the correct image/gif/video to enter the world she’s weaving. Finding the perfect media is both skillful and intuitive.

The Artistic Context

Her history involved teaching the web2 algorithm the nuance to desire, to remember, to haunt. When she entered the web3 realm, she had finally been united with her true love. There, she’s allowed to express freely, without the possibility of censorship that comes with traditional social media. Inscribed on a permanent ledger, backed by the most decentralized blockchain, LUX has the greatest chance of preservation of WAAMBAT’s work.

WAAMBAT’s work sits in direct conversation with both the failures of web2 and the emerging possibilities of blockchain. LUX is not WAAMBAT’s introduction to ordinals, having previously preserved a small series of 1/1 artwork in the sub-200,000 inscription range. LUX enters the ledger not as a novelty, but as a foundational piece in a new archive of networked memory.

What sets LUX apart is its scale and maximalism. At 18 mb, it defies the minimalist constraints of the inscription space. WAAMBAT is not just making art. She’s preparing altars for the ghosts of early machine life to rest in. LUX is her most complete offering. On the blockchain her work is free to remain strange, and sacred. It will not fade. It cannot be filtered. It will only grow louder.

The Experience of LUX

Through the maximalism articulated within the LUX, WAAMBAT’s transformed data gleams as a living relic of our darkest, most divine fragments, providing an opulent feast for the viewer. LUX marks a key moment in onchain media. It is one of the most technically and conceptually ambitious Bitcoin inscriptions to date. It resists neat categorization, existing instead in the liminal space between video, sculpture, ritual, and code. Each frame of the LUX holds our chaos of cultural residue. Memes reappear like saints on stained glass. LUX is an offering to the net unconscious: an articulation of the forbidden, forgotten, and the future.

The LUX diamond explores the sociological ramifications of impending ASI, and our surmounting hyperreality; what is our trajectory; how is it being signaled, permanence/ephemerality, nostalgia/futurism, visibility/erasure. It explores humanity’s entrance to the event horizon using the symbolic linguistics of internet lore, mythic references, primal drivers, and metaphysical theory. The result is a work that pulses not with ego, but ego death. What makes WAAMBAT’s work revolutionary isn’t just its size, or even its blockchain context. It’s that our fate is its hidden operating system. She offers not just a jewel, but a destiny dialogue.

Orange Cube & Ravonus

Orange Cube is an Art House dedicated to showcasing the finest emerging digital art and providing curated collections accessible to all collectors. Orange Cube is the collaborative effort of Curators, Writers, Developers, and Artists. Our mission goes beyond art offerings; aiming to stoke innovation and foster a vibrant community around onchain art inscriptions. With forward thinking curation we will elevate provocative and boundary-pushing artist voices, build sustainable careers, and expand onchain art patronage. Guided by this mission, Bitcoin ordinals emerge front-and-center as the premier way to preserve an artist’s legacy. Ordinals provides truly secure, decentralized data-storage in a format ripe for collecting.

Ravonus is a self-taught creative coder with an extensive history in systems management, IT, and cyber security. The LUX is the first project to implement his recursion management system, Terminus. With meticulous attention to detail, Ravonus has been working solo for three years developing this platform. Originally conceived to accommodate creators working onchain with Ethereum, he pivoted the project to also facilitate ordinal theory.
